The need for a lock arises when you need security for your valuables .The existence of lock was seen in the old texts of ancient civilisations. The locks ware used to secure the big trunks made of metal to secure the robes, artillery, map, blankets and other items needed during travelling. Locks were also found in the old coffins found in the excavation site of the Egyptian mummies. It was probably used to keep the body secured and prevent the odour to spread to the surrounding. Every lock can be opened by its individual key. In the earlier days the locks were not so advanced and the keys were made with groves which could only fit in the groves made in lock. The design of the lock was very ornate as it was only the aristocratic family that wanted the lock their valuables. Then with the advancement of technology the locks became smaller and simple in their exterior but the functionality became very advanced. The locks had special codes designed to the lock and the same code was engraved on the key .If the key was misplaced the entire lock had to be replaced. Very often we see locks on the iron gates of the gate which gives an illusion of the closure of the factory due to reasons of bankrupts or any kind of strike .Putting a lock to the main door of a residential building mean that the owner is out the city or has gone somewhere .Breaking a lock of a door means burglary or robbery that amounts a big fine and guilty in the court of law. The locks put on the interiors of the door are computerised or mechanical locks. They use a chain to secure it on to the door which has a groove and the other side is attached or secured on the door frame. The lock for the bicycle is also a computerised type of lock. The ceramic knob with a white background with the picture of a lock painted on it would an ideal accessory for the furniture of the kid’s room or the study table.
